Kristin Diane Parker Photos

Nothing deep here, just tabloid curiosity. Poor girl messed up big-time.

DENVER July 24, 2009 – A grand jury indicted a surgery technician infected with hepatitis C on several charges Thursday (7/23/09), alleging she stole syringes with painkillers and replaced them with needles she had used. Prosecutors allege that at least 19 people contracted the disease as a result.

3304 Miles, 3304 Pictures

Wouldn't it be cool to rig up a camera to take a picture every mile you drove from NYC to San Francisco of what ever happened to be there? Matt Frondorf did it.

As for automation....

"I would count the miles,” he says. “As soon as the thirty-sixth came, I would change rolls, put the exposed roll in a canister, enter its number on a log sheet, take the next one out of the cooler, and insert it. I got to where I could do all that in less than a minute, while steering with my kneecap.”

It wasn't that rudimentary. You can read more about his set-up if you're curious.

Here's a tiny sampling of Matt's photo journey:

Mile Zero - New York City

Mile 204 - Abbotstown, PA

Mile 454 - Stuberville, WV & OH

Mile 1174 - Missouri Countryside

Mile 1504 - Abilene, KS

Mile 2402 - Cisco, UT

Mile 3304 - San Francisco, CA

Obama and Torture Photos

I'm hoping that Obama is being advised to withhold the torture photos to preserve evidence for prosecutions. E.g., a low ranking person is implicated, who has not yet been exposed publicly. The Gov't says, "Turn states evidence and we'll go lighter on you AND spare you the public humiliation."

Resurrection of Christ

Protesters Leave Royal Bank of Scotland after
Turning Over Tables
of the Money Changers

Jesus had it right when he turned over the tables of the money changers. For those who don't accept the literal story of Christ's resurrection, these photos of young protesters "turning over the tables" at the Royal Bank of Scotland might be evidence that his spirit lives on.

Sacrificing Blood

Adoration of the Thorn Crown

April 1 IndyMedia coverage of the G20 Protest included this sound bite:

"Meanwhile, protestors are inside the RBS branch, and it's being smashed up, but the cops are not intervening."

And how we celebrate Christ's resurrection today:

Argentina's Shame in Paired Photos

File this under "pictures say a thousand words." A set of paired photos of friends and family "before" Argentinian's dirty war disappearances and "after"...

Disappeared thanks to the Ten Percent blog for sharing the artistic work of Gustavo Germano.

One of the photo pairs below (click to enlarge):

Argentine photographer Gustavo Germano’s exhibition, “Absences”, explores the universe of the victims of “disappearances” during Argentina’s “Dirty War” (1976-1983). Photos are juxtaposed in pairs, one old and one recent. On the new one, a person is missing. Disappeared for ever, without leaving a trace.

Coincidentally, I sat at a bar in Washington, DC just over a week ago and chatted with a young guy from Argentina. We discussed Argentina's dirty war among other topics.

Christina Applegate: Get well, Stay Well

Christina Applegate, famous as the ditzy cutie on Marred with Children, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She is 36-years old. Her mother apparently battled cancer too.

From what little I pick up of pop culture, I hear she's a gifted actor and intelligent, informed person. She defies convention and speaks her mind about social issues, even when it isn't popular to do so.

Count me as one who hopes she gets well and stays healthy for many decades to come.

Donate to the American Cancer Society. Sometimes criticized for being one of the largest non-profit organizations. They are also criticized for using some of their funds to promote general access to medical care. I consider the latter goal worthy, and related to the larger mission of dealing with cancer; until we have a "cure," or can prevent cancer, early screening remains a key to successful treatment, and access to medical care is key to early screening and treatment.

Vicki Iseman Photos

Pictures of the woman lobbyist that McCain denies having an intimate relationship with. She works for www.alcalde-fay.com.

As for substance, McCain's Record is not that Clean. A little digging shows he's got a clear case of impropriety involving Vicki Iseman and her client Paxton Communications.

Modern Day Exodus

It should go down in history as a modern day exodus.
Tens of thousands of Palestinians poured from the Gaza Strip into Egypt...

Gazans crossed on foot, in cars or in donkey carts ... [escaping] an Israeli blockade of their impoverished territory. Across the coastal strip, home to 1.5 million Palestinians, people pushed into buses and piled into rickety pickup trucks heading to Egypt and a rare opportunity to escape months of isolation.

"Freedom is good. We need no border after today," said unemployed 29-year-old Mohammed Abu Ghazal. Desperation is driving humanity across the Egyptian boarder, like a Bible story.

US and Israeli foreign policy of crushing the Palestinians has become so unbearable that the people are fleeing the oppression. This is the "wrong side of history" as warned by Martin Luther King, Jr.

Pentagon Protest: Speaker Stage Photos

This is the second in a set of three photo essays about the Pentagon protest on March 17, 2007. The other two photo essays are:

Overview and Miscellaneous Photos

Police Line Road Block on Washington Boulevard

As noted in the "Overview," the march led to a speaker's stage set up with the Pentagon in the background. Former US Attorney General Ramsy Clark was speaking when the following two photos were taken.

The following photo shows part of the crowd listening to speakers. In the background is Washington Blvd bridge. It was blocked off by a police line at the lefthand side of the bridge relative to the photo below. Route 110, Jefferson Davis Hwy, goes under the bridge. The stage and Pentagon are to the left.

A fairly significant group of journalists, including Indymedia, and corporate media, covered the protest, reflected in the photo of cameras on the raised platform below.

To the left of the stage, Carlos Arredondo set up a display honoring his son, Alexander, who was killed in Najaf in August 2004. According to DemocracyNow, "Carlos has traveled across the country with an empty coffin and a picture of his son's open casket and funeral." He was in Times Square with his display on March 12 and conducted an interview on DemocracyNow the following day.
