May 8 - Washington Protest for Jobs

The 75th Anniversary of FDR's Works Progress Administration (WPA) is approaching and what better way to honor it than going to the streets?

On May 6, 1935, Pres. Roosevelt signed executive order 7034 creating the largest public works program in history. The Works Progress Administration created 8.5 million jobs during the Depression of the 1930s.

Bail Out The People is organizing around a principle for which Martin Luther King, Jr. organized in the last years of his life; the notion that a job is a fundamental right.

One can argue with that principle, but it's hard to argue that the recent bailout of Wall Street wasn't a corporate welfare give-away at the expense of better uses of tax-payer money. We hear about the Treasury Department TARP money, about $700 billion, but that was the tip of the iceberg; trillions were given directly and as tax-payer-backed guarantees by the Federal Reserve without any public oversight.[1]

Everybody In... Nobody Out

Single-payer healthcare, Medicare for all, is still the message. We're not stopping until we see the light of a rational, efficient, effective universal healthcare system.

A psychiatrist at a recent rally of "Mad as Hell Doctors" said she has identified an anxiety disorder that almost all of her patients have, which isn't documented in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. She has given the disorder a name, it's an acronym PIISD (pronounced "Pissed"), which stands for Private Insurance Induced Stress Disorder.

Fox 11 Los Angeles: Three Days Later

Ouch! The Los Angeles Police Department really blew it this time. It's OK to beat up anarchists and Latinos from poor neighborhoods; who listens to them? But you don't shoot and beat up mainstream news media personnel. Hard to ignore. Even Bush's FBI is being forced to open a civil rights inquiry into the officers' conduct. Lets hope they go up the chain.

It's three days after the LA cops reminded us all of where the police state is heading if we don't stop it, and the FOX 11 KTTV web page is still dominated by images of the May 1 "Melee." (True, they are also covering Paris Hilton being sentenced to 45-days in jail for parole violation).


If I was Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, I'd be pissed I had to cut short my trade mission to Mexico to deal with fallout from police violence.
